Federal authorities have confirmed that at least three people were under arrest charges in connection with possible plot to kill Senator Barack Obama during his speech accepting Democratic nomination on Thursday night.

The police said they had found two rifles, one with scope in the car along with walkie-talkies, a bullet proof vest and licenses in names of other people. One of the rifles was listed stolen from Kansas.

The Denver Police Department said that an “aggressive” inquiry had been underway since the first arrest in the case. Detective Marcus Dudley Jr. of the Aurora Police Department, said the first arrest was of Tharin Robert Gartrell, 28, who was taken into custody after the police pulled him over for driving erratically in a rental truck. The others arrested were identified as Nathan Johnson, 32, caught from a hotel a few hours later by Denver Police Department. The third arrest involved Shawn Robert Adolf, 33, in Glendale, shortly after leaping from a sixth floor hotel window. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The investigation team includes the secret service, the FBI and a joint terrorism task force.
